Facial blood vessels may dilate too easily, and the increased blood near the skin surface makes the skin appear red and flushed.
This may be due to factors related to blood flow, skin bacteria, irritation of follicles, sun damage of the connective tissue under the skin, an abnormal immune or inflammatory response, or psychological factors.
While some symptoms can appear similar to acne, they are different conditions and are treated in different ways.
Some people with rosacea will experience spots and breakouts, specifically papules and pustules, but they won’t experience blackheads or large legions or cysts. They also won’t experience any scarring to the skin, unlike some people with acne.
